I guess quite often we see someone, often a ‘celebrity’, on TV who’s completed an inspiring challenge – perhaps cycling across America, running Marathons for several days, or whatever.
Just occasionally, if at all, we actually meet someone who has achieved an equally amazing achievement, but without the publicity, but just, if not more, as inspirational.
This happened to us, when we met Sarah.
This is her story.
About three years ago Sarah, who was in her late fifties (turning 60 this year), and lives locally, would struggle to run more than 200 metres having never been a runner, but following a personal problem decided to take up jogging.
Starting small, she slowly built up, and found she was enjoying it, jogging turning to running!
Fast forward to 2026, and Sarah has now completed 10 marathons. In 2025 she completed ‘The Big Six’, which refers to the Abbott World Majors being the biggest marathon races in the world: Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Tokyo and New York City.
Not only that in her first year of running marathons she qualified for the World Aged Marathon Championships in Sydney, which also gave her a Seventh Abbott World Majors star and one of the first to achieve this in the world. She has also achieved excellent times for her age, which gained her entry to the exclusive Boston marathon.
So, if you’ve set yourself a New Resolution to get fit, start running, or achieve something you’ve always wanted to do, take inspiration from Sarah. You can do it.
She still finds time to enter local events and is planning to enter the Lions East Peckham 10k race later this year (August 2nd), Its one of the flattest routes around and for the first time this year there’s an easier 5k, and a Junior 2k race as well. Finally, Sarah said , ‘I really hope this inspires people to do something they never thought was possible, as anything is possible and through sadness and a very tough time something positive has come out of it for me.’
Be Inspired and Good Luck with whatever you’re planning to do.
